Bazaar Shop Owners community has called for a 24-hour total shutdown in Khwairamband Bazar area, Manipur decrying various problems occurring in the bazar area.
The total shutdown will be effective from Monday midnight and till Tuesday midnight.
In a release signed by the members of the Bazaar Shop Owners community stated that due to the various problems being faced in the bazaar area, the community, including all the small and big shop owners, have unanimously taken the decision for market shutdown.
The small and big shops located in the Khwairamband area will impose 24 hours total shutdown, it added.
Recently, incidents occurred in which some residents of Thangal Bazaar were physically assaulted by some assailants at night.
Police arrested seven individuals, including five minors, were apprehended on May 13 Monday for their involvement in nighttime assaults on civilians. The arrests came in response to reports of attacks in areas around Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazaar, Manipur.
Upon investigation into these incidents, the Manipur police swiftly identified and detained the suspects from various locations in Imphal.
Among those arrested were Khumukcham Brainny Singh, 19, of Kongba Makha Nandeibam, Imphal East; and RK Ronish Singh, 22, of Keishampat Thokchom Leikai, Imphal West. Five minors were taken into custody as individuals in conflict with the law (CCL).
The arrests followed the circulation of CCTV footage on social media capturing the assaults on civilians during the night. Subsequently, a case was registered at the City police station for further investigation into the matter.
The local MLA, Khumukcham Joykisan, also made an appeal not to repeat similar incidents in the near future and that legal action will be taken against any individual or group found harassing the residents of the bazaar area.
