A 12-day-old infant was reunited with her mother on Tuesday after reportedly being separated due to a domestic dispute, following an intervention by the Manipur Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (MCPCR).
After a complaint was lodged to the MCPCR, it immediately intervened and restored the minor to her mother, stated a release signed by MCPCR Chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar.
The infant reportedly got separated from her mother as she returned to her maternal home after certain quarrels with her husband, it said. It mentioned that the complainants were a Women Action for Development (WAD) representative and the elder brother of the mother.
MCPCR asserted that since a biological mother is the most competent natural child care giver for such an infant, who is in desperate need of being breastfed and other specific care, it resolved for immediate restoration of the infant to the biological mother. It added that the same is paramount for protecting survival and development rights of the infant.
It further urged young couples not to take any drastic stance, including immediate separation or divorce, which may be detrimental to emotional well-being and wholesome development of their children.
