‘Mangani Leihul’ of former RPF chief observed

People belonging to various ethnic communities came to pay floral tributes to former RPF president Irengbam Chaoren who was also serving as first convenor of the proscribed umbrella organisation Coordinating Committee (CorCom) that was established in 2011.

The ‘Mangani Leihul’ ceremony (a Meitei ritual conducted on the 5th day after the death of a person) of former president of proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front’s (RPF) Irengbam Chaoren alias Bhorot was conducted at his residence located at Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai, Imphal West on Tuesday.

He was born on November 2, 1957 and was the eldest son among the three children of late Irengbam Ibomcha and Tongbram Ningol Jamuna from Khagempalli Huidrom leikai, Imphal West.

According to RPF, Chaoren passed away on February 10 at 10.30 pm after battling with terminal brain tumor. The outfit mourned the death and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the people on the death of its chief.

The outfit announced a 15-day mourning period for its leader from February 10 till February 24, saying that the party’s flag will be blown half mast during the period as a mark of respect and honour to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, people from various communities including artistes, CSO leaders, local bodies demonstrated processions to his residence. As a part of the ‘Mangani Leihul’, various communities including muslim communities and tribes also performed their respective rituals as a part of the ceremony.
