A man was shot dead by unknown miscreants at Kumbi Khuga Wangma, located around 1.2 km north of Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur district early Saturday, sources said.
The sources said that the deceased has been identified as one Khangembam Sanjay Singh, alias Athoi, alias Pambei, 31 years, son of Kh Manglemba Singh from Kumbi Setupur Maning Leikai.
He was reportedly involved in a POCSO case filed by Imphal East District Women Police Station in September 2002 and was in jail before.
According to the sources, Sanjay was allegedly abducted by unknown armed miscreants from his house around 2 am. He was later found dead at Khuga Wangma around 3:43 am with a gunshot wound to his head.
Residents in the nearby areas also mentioned hearing two rounds of gunshots, the sources said. Kumbi Police Station has also registered a case against the incident.
Upon hearing the news, a State Forensic Science Laboratory mobile unit rushed to the spot and inspected the crime scene. A magistrate also conducted an inquest to ascertain details of the incident.
Later, the body was shifted to RIMS mortuary where a post mortem examination was conducted. The whole process was recorded for evidence. The body was later handed over to the family members.
