A 28-year-old man has been sent to police custody for three days by the Special Judge (POCSO), Imphal East in connection with the kidnapping and rape case of a minor.
The man, identified as Khullakpam Jayed, 28, son of Md Basa Mali of Naharup Pangong Makhong, surrendered to the police on Tuesday in connection with an FIR at Women PS, Imphal East for kidnapping a minor girl and sexually assaulted on July 12, 2023.
According to police records, a complaint of kidnap was lodged by the father of the girl on July 14, 2023 following which the police searched for the girl and rescued her the day itself from an area in Imphal East district; the accused was not found though.
However, the accused surrendered before the police on Tuesday and admitted during interrogation that he committed the crime. However, he refused to disclose the facts of the case. So, police prayed for custody for three days in order to carry out further interrogation.
The court heard the prayer and remanded the culprit to three days of police custody till February 8.
