Man found dead with bullet wounds inside car in Moreh

The deceased person has been identified as one Raj Gajmir, 22-year old, son of Khenu Gajmir and Hatneilam Haokip of New Moreh, police said.

A man was found dead with bullet wounds inside a car in Moreh late Friday, sources said.

The sources said that the man was found dead inside a Breeza Car (AS 11N 6301) parked near KCC Church in Mission Veng, Moreh Ward No 2 around 9 pm Friday.

The deceased person has been identified as one Raj Gajmer, around 22, son of Khenu Gajmer and Hatneilam Haokip of New Moreh, police said.

According to sources, one Md Mubarak from Sekmaijin sustained bullet wounds. He was reportedly with Raj Gajmer when gunmen opened fire at point blank range somewhere along the border, near Muslim Nagar Moreh. Raj Gajmer had left home in the Breeza Car around 5 pm, the sources said.

A team of Moreh police led by additional SP rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and the vehicle which was found parked near KCC Church in Mission Veng, Moreh Ward No II. The injured person has been transported to Imphal for further treatment.

Sources said that Raj Gajmer was shot dead when he was on his way to drop his friend Md Mubarak to Muslim Nagar, Moreh when the culprit allegedly shot him dead inside his car and injured his friend. One Zia Ul Haque, aged about 32, emerged as a prime suspect in connection with the incident. The said individual remained at large since Friday night, the sources said. The angry mob of the Muslim Nagar damaged the house of the suspected culprit.

It is suspected that the assailant who fled the scene had transported the body in the same car to dispose of at some isolated area somewhere along the border but got stuck near KCC Church after the vehicle got damaged. The reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, a joint meeting of Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh and Gorkha Samaj Samiti Moreh condemned the incident, and submitted a memorandum which includes several points to deputy commission, Tengnoupal.

The meeting demanded the authorities concerned to arrest and produce the accused at the earliest and grant an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh. It demanded that a government job must be provided to the next of kin of the deceased etc. The meeting also resolved the authorities concerned to fulfill the demands within 48 hours.

The meeting further resolved that in the event of failure on the part of the government to fulfill the said demands, the body shall not be claimed and public agitation shall be organised till justice is delivered.

Meetei Council Moreh in another condemnation note condemned the killing of Raj Gajmer in the strongest term. The killing and transport of the body to another area indicate the well organised and planned tactics of the murderer, it stated.  

MCM demands to arrest the culprit and punish according to the law of the land, it stated. It also requested the government to give all necessary help to the family of the deceased.

Hill Tribal Council, in a separate release, condemned the killing of Raj Gajmer and injuring Mubarak. The prime suspect should be arrested at the earliest and punished according to the law, it further stated.

Manipuri Muslim Council, Moreh also condemned the incident. It appealed to the government to nab the absconding culprit and award strangest punishment to the law of the land.

Gorkha Samaj joined the condemnation and requested the government to arrest the culprit at the earliest and punish as per law.
