A 65-year-old man died in a road mishap along the National Highway 102 connecting Imphal and Moreh at Khongjom Kheba under the Khongjom police station of Thoubal district around 8.30 pm on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as one Laishram Tampha, 65, son of Chabungba from Heirok Part I Mamang Leikai. The vehicle involved in the mishap could not be identified and had fled from the incident, sources stated. It informed that the police had filed a case regarding the incident and the body had been kept at the JNIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the locals of Heirok Part I Mamang Leikai formed a JAC regarding the incident and demonstrated a sit-in protest urging the authorities concerned to produce the miscreants along with the involved by March 19 and cautioned agitations.
At the protest at Heirok Part I Mamang Leikai, president of the JAC Laishram Jadumani said that Tampha was on a bicycle on his way to Khongjom when the incident occurred. He was found lying on the roadside by a team of Khongjom police and was rushed to Thoubal district hospital immediately, he added.
He continued that the police team posted a photo of him on social media in an attempt to identify him, after which his family arrived at the hospital. And shortly after, he succumbed to his injury, he mentioned.
The protesters urged the authorities to produce the culprits by March 19, adding that the body will not be received if the authorities concerned failed to meet their demands.
