A man reportedly died on Saturday in a mishap involving an excavator during an alleged demolition of Meitei houses and properties which was burned in the communal violence at Khumujamba Meitei Leikai in Churachandpur district, sources said.

As per sources, a public meeting participated by around 3,000 people was held around 8.30 am on Saturday at Churachandpur Public Ground, after which around 150 individuals arrived at the Khumujamba Meitei Leikai under the Churachandpur police station to demolish the houses and properties of the Meitei communities which was burnt and destroyed in the communal clash.

During the demolition, one Ngamkhansuan was crushed by an excavator, it added.
