The Yelhoumee Kanba Lup (YEMKAL) on Thursday announced that a public meeting in connection with the present crisis in Manipur would be held on June 3 at Awang khunou Mayai Leikai community hall in Imphal West.
YEMKAL urged representatives, CSOs of all indigenous communities and intellectuals of the state to take part in the meet.
Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, YEMKAL convenor Loken Angom stated that the public meeting had been organised to formulate a cohesive resolution of all communities in the state to end the ongoing issue.
“The meeting will aid the communities in figuring out measures to safeguard the indigenous communities in the present crisis,” he said.
He mentioned that the involvement of Chin-Kuki-Mizo militants in the present crisis turned the ethnic clash into a violent conflict.
He highlighted that a memorandum would be framed during the meeting and submitted to various leaders in the country and the World Human Rights Protection Commission, UNO.
He also condemned the relaxation of curfew in the hill districts while it was strictly maintained in the six valley districts.
“Such vigilance in the valley districts makes it look like the Meiteis are the main culprits in the whole debacle which is completely false,” he said.
He further urged authorities to clear the blockade along the national highways and usher peace building measures in Manipur swiftly.
