LS Polls 2024 Phase 2: Election duty for 197 personnel deferred

A total of 79 state forces dispersed from Imphal reached Tamenglong district for election duty, while polling officials, security personnel including CAPF and state forces were dispersed from mini secretariat, Tamenglong district headquarters, two days ahead of 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency election.

Election duty at Tamenglong district for the protesting 197 police personnel was deferred even as Kuki women continued to check vehicles carrying poll personnel and security personnel at Kotlen on Jiribam highway.

A total of 79 state forces dispersed from Imphal reached Tamenglong district for election duty, while polling officials, security personnel including CAPF and state forces were dispersed from mini secretariat, Tamenglong district headquarters, two days ahead of 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency election.

As many as 260 state forces are assigned for election duty in Tamenglong district. Of the total, 197 security forces demonstrated a protest on Monday, urging the authorities concerned not to deploy them at conflict zones.

As per sources, the 197 state forces are kept at standby as the order for their deployment from the authority concerned is yet to be issued.

Sources reported that Kuki women are checking the security vehicles at Kotlen village, Kangpokpi district which lies on the way to Tamenglong district along Imphal-Jiribam national highway. The checking is being conducted to find out the Meiteis among the state security forces.

With just two days left for the poll and under the bad weather conditions, the polling personnel for 14 Polling stations of Tamei subdivision and 40 polling stations of Tousem sub division and 12 polling stations of Tamenglong Assembly Constituency were dispersed Wednesday from the multipurpose hall DC complex, mini secretariat Tamenglong district.

A total number of 75,438 voters which include 36,636 male voters and 38,782 female voters of the Two Assembly segments, namely 52-Tamei/Tousem (ST) and 53-Tamenglong (ST) will vote for the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency. Tamenglong district has 36 numbers of female managed polling stations.

Ahead of the dispersal of the Polling Team, the strong room located at DC Office Complex was opened from 8 am onwards for dispersal of EVMs and VVPATs in the presence of AROs, nodal officers and representatives of various political parties.

Under the heavy and bad weather conditions, polling officials and security personnel, including Central Armed Police Forces and State Police for the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha Election were dispersed from the mini secretariat Tamenglong headquarter.

Due to the ongoing crisis in the state, and as precautionary measures, government employees from both the communities (Meitei and Kuki) had been shifted to the districts where the respective communities are dominant.

A convoy of oil tankers were ambushed recently at Tolen village by UKNA (Kuki militants) along Imphal-Jiribam national highway injuring two drivers and 5 oil tankers and one LPG gas bullet tanker were damaged.
