The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday fielded Th Basanta Kumar Singh as its candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. Th Basanta Singh is currently the Education and Law Minister.

In its 6th list of candidates released on Tuesday, Th Basanta Kumar Singh was nominated for the Inner Manipur LS seat by the BJP central election committee.

Th Basanta Kumar Singh, who was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2022 from Nambol AC in Bishnupur district, will be contesting against Congress candidate Akoijam Bimol.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated Th Basanta Singh for his candidacy while terming him the "right candidate" to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.

"I heartily congratulate Shri @thbasantasingh on being nominated as the candidate of BJP Manipur Pradesh for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.  With an excellent track record in serving the public in various capabilities, Shri Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh is the right candidate to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. I wish him all the best and pray for his success," CM Biren posted on X.

It may be mentioned that the BJP will not be contesting from the Outer Manipur LS seat and has decided to support Naga Peoples Front (NPF) candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik. The NPF, an ally of the BJP both at the Centre and the state level, had also expressed its intention of supporting the BJP candidate in the Inner Manipur seat while announcing Timothy Zimik’s name.

Manipur will go to polls in two phases. While polling for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat will take place on April 19, voting for the Outer Manipur LS seat will be held on April 26. Counting of votes will be held on June 4.
