In a significant development for Manipur’s political landscape, the oldest regional party, Manipur People’s Party (MPP) has announced its intention to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
This announcement came after the party elected S Brojen as its new president on Sunday, following a directive from the High Court of Manipur.
Further, the party announced the name of Manipuri actor RK Somorendro, popularly known as Kaiku, as its candidate for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat.
The party’s election process was conducted with the active participation of all its central committee members. This inclusive approach has paved the way for effectively quelling any internal controversies that previously plagued the party, Brojen said.
The new president expressed confidence in the party’s renewed vigour, stating, “With the successful conclusion of our party’s election and the unanimous support from our central committee members, all the controversies within the party have been settled. MPP is now fully prepared and re-energised to serve the people of Manipur with renewed strength and commitment.”
