Locals suggest peace committee to restore normalcy in Manipur

The locals of Sagolband, Imphal, stated the need of a Peace Committee comprising the major communities in the state to bring back peace in the state.

People of Sagolband on Saturday demanded the authorities to work with the people to bring peace and normalcy to the state, stating that only the general public suffers in any case of violence.

A release issued by PRO to MLA Sagolband, Ng Manao Singh stated that certain measures need to be taken up on priority to bring the state back to normalcy, including the formation of a Peace Committee comprising the major communities in the state to chart out a conducive environment and programmes to bring everyone on the table.

It urged the authorities to conduct NRC across the state to find out any illegal immigrants to distinguish the indigenous Manipuris from illegal foreign immigrants across all communities; to check the influx of all foreign nationals across the state; seal the porous boundary between Myanmar and India bordering Manipur so that cross border transit is stopped completely.

It took resolutions for the protection of Manipur’s territorial integrity and to bring peace and normalcy to the state. It also took a resolution “to resign at the first instance if the central government is not able to bring peace.”

Locals demand reopening of government offices

The Pumlen Pat Khoidum Lamjao Kanba Apunba Lup (PPKLKAL) on Saturday demanded the resumption of government offices, the withdrawal of the statement of the 10 Kuki MLAs and the removal of Assam Rifles from the state.

In a statement, PPKLKAL appealed to the Union and state government to withdraw the statement of the 10 Kuki MLAs regarding the demand for a separate administration.
It also appealed for the resumption of work of government offices and demanded the removal of Assam Rifles from the state with a better replacement in its stead. It urged the authorities to take down all unwanted signboards.
