Locals hold protest against bomb blast in residential area

One bomb suspected to be an Intensified Explosive Device (IED) exploded at the residence of an official of Agriculture department at around 3.50 am Friday in Imphal East. During the blast, some of the property, including vehicles were damaged.

Several local groups, including Eastern Popular Club; Yaipha Lamjing Nupi Lup; Apunba Nupi Lup, Khurai along with Coordinating body of Khurai staged a one day sit-in protest at community hall of Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai, Imphal East, decrying against the bomb attack that occurred at residential area early Friday.

One bomb suspected to be an Intensified Explosive Device (IED) exploded at the residence of executive engineer of department of agriculture, RK Virendra at around 3.50 am Friday. During the blast, some of the property, including vehicles were damaged.

One of the protesters, Hijam ongbi Jina Devi told media that the locals strongly condemned such incident where one fuel station is also located adjacent to the residence of Virendra.

She said who will be responsible if the fuel station caught fire. many innocent lives could become victim of the blast. Being a residential area many students are also living in the locality who are giving their examination and due to the incident most of the people are in panic situation, Jina added.

She appealed to those who are responsible for the blast to clarify in front of public instead of planting of bomb in the residential areas. If there are misunderstanding then it could be solved at a negotiating table instead of planting bombs.

Jina also appealed not to repeat such incident in the near future as every misunderstanding can be solved without committing any crime.
