In a resolute response to a bomb threat at the residence of MU professor RK Hemakumar at Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong, residents staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 2.30 pm, involved the discovery of a hand grenade inside the professor's home.
In a quick response, a team of Manipur police successfully extracted and seized the explosive device, prompting the filing of an FIR at Lamphel police station. An investigation is underway to apprehend the culprit(s) responsible for the incident.
The demonstration, jointly organised by the Senior Social Group, Kurao Makhong United Club Council for Youth Welfare, Lamjing Seva Meira Paibi, and Sayang Kurao Makhong Women Development Committee, emphasised the collective concern of the community against such terrorising threats.
Protestors displayed placards with messages such as "We want peace," "Bomb will not bring peace," "Stop threatening the public," and "We condemn bomb threats in residential areas."
They demanded a clarification from the miscreants responsible for the bomb and urged them to avoid repeating such threats in the future.
Promodini Thounaojam, a meira paibi leader, expressed that while the bomb did not result in injuries or casualties, it instilled fear and insecurity among locals.
She called on those responsible for the threat to refrain from such actions and encouraged them to pursue dialogue to address any misunderstandings or issues.
The localities aimed to send a clear message against acts of violence and to foster a sense of security and peace within the locality.
