Liquor worth over Rs 23 lakh disposed of in Imphal

The destroyed liquor included 3011.44 litre of Indian Made Foreign Liquor; 256.1 litre of beer and 4427.5 litres of Distilled Indigenous Country liquor, sources said.

Confiscated liquor amounting to a total of 7,695.04 litre, worth around Rs 23,26,444, were disposed of at the campus of Excise headquarter located at Lamphelpat, Imphal on Saturday, after the storage room became congested with seized liquor, sources said.

An order issued on Tuesday by the office of the commissioner of excise, Manipur mentioned that various brands of confiscated, excisable articles like IMFL, Beer and DIC liquor were being kept at the Malkhana of Excise head quarter, Lamphelpat.

It stated that the Malkhana room had become congested due to storage of seized articles and making it inconvenient to store the newly confiscated items. The order directed to destroy the seized items under section 69 of Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991 on Saturday.

The destroyed liquor include 3011.44 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL); 256.1 litre of beer and 4427.5 litre of Distilled Indigenous Country (DIC) liquor, the sources said.

The seized liquor, including beer, were destroyed with the help of a road roller machine and were dumped into the ground of the campus.
