Demanding revocation of the cabinet decision to legalise selling and brewing of liquor in the state, women folk of Khurai, under the banner of Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup and Apunba Khurai Kanba Nupi Lup, staged a sit-in on Monday at the community hall of Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East.
The protestors displayed placards that read, "What is call a healthy and a hygienic liquor?", "Will legalised alcohol not affect the health?", "Is revenue more important than human lives?", "Will crime rate reduce if consume the legalised liquor?" and others.
Speaking to the media, KKKNL secretary L Thambalsana pointed out that each and every household has become a victim of alcohol abuse even when there is prohibition and questioned if the government could not, at least, foresee a little of the scenario as to what would happen to the state after legalisation.
The future of Manipur will be in vain if liquor is legalised, she said, adding that the women folk of Khurai will continue the stir until the decision is revoked.
