The District Legal Services Authority, Chandel, under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, organized a one-day legal awareness programme on “Common Myths on Justice Delivery System” as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign at Sinadam Village, Chandel District on Friday.
Advocate Jacky Lucy Lamkang, as a resource person, started with a brief on the justice delivery system in the country. She further spoke on the various types of cases of the judiciary system, viz., criminal, civil, juvenile justice, etc. and explained the differences between a suspect, arrestee, accused and a convict and talked about the various roles of the officials under India’s judiciary system.
She concluded that delivering justice is not a duty solely entrusted to the judiciary and it cannot be conducted in isolation. The justice delivery mechanism is dependent on several factors and cooperation amongst the three major organs of the state i.e., the executive, legislature and the judiciary, she said.
The village authorities, local villagers, students and PLVs participated in the programme.
