Legal awareness campaign to bridge gap between institutions and underprivileged in Imphal West

A special legal awareness campaign in Imphal West aims at bridging the gap between institutions and the underprivileged by ensuring delivery of legal entitlements to eligible beneficiaries

In a bid to spread legal awareness on empowering citizens, a special campaign on Welfare Law and Schemes, Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties, Free Legal Aid and Services was launched on October 31 and will continue till November 13. 

The campaign, organised by the District Legal Service Authority, Imphal West, is aimed at bridging the gap between institutions and the underprivileged by ensuring delivery of legal entitlements to eligible beneficiaries, said advisor of the special campaign, advocate Ch Momon on Saturday at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.

Momon said the campaign will focus on spreading awareness about welfare laws and schemes, fundamental rights and fundamental duties, free legal aid and services provided by legal services institutions, digital initiatives for approaching institutions.

The initiatives include the Vidhi Chatbot, Whatsapp Chatbot, Legal Aid Case Management System, Legal Services Management System, Online Mediation Portal among others and rights and remedies available under various laws. As a part of the special campaign another campaign “Haq_humara_bhi_to_hai@75” will be conducted, he added.

The campaign will provide basic legal assistance to persons confined in prisons and childcare institutions to commemorate the 75th years of Independence, he said, adding that it was launched by executive chairman, NALSA and Chief Justice of India (designate) on October 31.

DLSA, Imphal West in collaboration with DC, Imphal West is also organising a Mega Beneficiary Camp for the public of Imphal West district on Sunday at Kuranganayani hall, DC, Imphal West office complex, Lamphelpat from 10 am to 4 pm, Momon said.

He said the camp will be providing various public services such as enrollment of Aadhaar, CMHT, arrangement of medical checkup, legal counselling and legal aid services and assistance on various government schemes and others.

During the campaign, DLSA, Imphal West will also be presenting a street play on the title “Victim of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Expolitation” at Kangla on Monday. Exhibition of historical articles of judiciary at Cheirap Court complex, Uripok on Friday next and Pro-Bono registration camp for the Law students of Manipur at same court complex on the following day.

Momon said during the campaign all legal aid clinics, para legal volunteers, panel lawyers of DLSA, Imphal West, including 32 law students from different law colleges of Manipur have volunteered for the special campaign. He appealed to the public of the district to avail the opportunity.
