The Election Committee of the Indian National Congress for Langthabal constituency and Langthabal Block Congress Committee has condemned the allegation made by BJP candidate of Langthabal Assembly Constituency and clarified that the first phase of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly in Langthabal AC was carried out peacefully without occurrence of any unwanted incident.
During a press conference at residence of veteran politician O Joy, who is also Congress candidate of 12th Manipur Legislative constituency, on Thursday, spokesperson of Langthabal Block Congress Committee, Gyanendro Thoudam said that the allegation made by BJP candidate of Langthabal AC against Congress worker is baseless.
The BJP candidate had alleged that Congress worker Laishram Gope had threatened BJP polling agents on the day of election at polling stations 20/18 and 20/4. But there is no such worker called Gope in the Langthabal Block Congress Committee.
The said person is a government employee and there is no room for a government employee to become a Congress worker, he said. he also said the election was carried out peacefully in Langthabal. This can be proven with the support of cameras fitted in every polling booth, Gyanendro Thoudam said.
He also said that the Congress party always believed in peace, secularism and democratic values. And hence, the party supported free and fair elections and is against any kind of violent activities. As such, making allegations against the Congress is very unfortunate and should not behave in the future again, the spokesperson said.
The allegation made by the BJP candidate against Congress party at Langthabal in connection with recently concluded election was also condemned by local Meira Paibis of Sorokhaibam Leikai and Ashem Leikai.
