Kuki MLAs demand security

Nine Kuki MLAs on Friday unanimously condemned the firing of bullets at the residence of  Singhat (ST) assembly constituency MLA Chinlunthang by armed miscreants at Zou Veng, Churachandpur district, Manipur.

Nine Kuki MLAs on Friday unanimously condemned the firing of bullets at the residence of  Singhat (ST) assembly constituency MLA Chinlunthang by armed miscreants at Zou Veng, Churachandpur district, Manipur.

A statement signed by the nine MLAs urged the “security authorities of the Indian state” to take necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to bring the culprits to book.

The MLAs are Haokholet Kipgen MLA, Saitu assembly constituency,  Nemcha Kipgen MLA, Kangpokpi assembly constituency, Paolienlai Haokip MLA, Saikot assembly constituency, Letpao Haokip MLA, Tengnoupal assembly constituency, Ngursanglur Sanate MLA, Tipaimukh assembly constituency, LM Khaute MLA, Churachandpur assembly constituency, Letzamang Haokip MLA, Henglep assembly constituency,

Kimneo Haokip Hangshing MLA, Saikul assembly constituency and Vungzagin Valte MLA, Thanlon assembly constituency.  

Meanwhile, the Zo United condemned the “life threatening acts” of armed miscreants on the midnight of Wednesday in several places in Churachandpur.

“Despite repeated appeals made to the public to avoid ignition against our unity, such unwanted action occurred again. This is shameful, unfortunate and worrying,” stated a release.

The Zo United stands with MLA Chinlunthang and his family, general secretary ITLF Muan Tombing and his family and YPA president, Kanaan Veng and his family at this challenging time, it stated

Zo United appealed to all Kuki Zo communities to maintain  commitment to the common cause and continue to stand together with the same spirit of oneness, it stated.

It further appealed to the public to put the matter to the concerned for a peaceful dialogue in case of any arising issues that may concern the individuals or group, it mentioned.

It also appealed to the Central Armed Forces, Police and “those who are in authority” to identify the miscreants and take appropriate precautionary measures to avoid continual harassment in Lamka town and the surroundings.
