Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly denounced the alleged unfair constitution of a committee to reorganise the police jurisdiction in the strife-torn Manipur state and apprised the Governor to review and reconstitute the committee.

The state government on December 31, 2023, issued an order wherein a four-member committee was constituted to reorganise the police jurisdiction in the state with IPS K Jayanta Singh as head of the committee.

KIM stated that the constitution of the committee is a pressing need for the safety and security of the people and their land. However, the lack of Kuki-Zo representation in the committee is beyond excusable.

It also pointed out that the constitution of the committee obviously exhibited the state government’s continuance of anti-tribal policies, with a senior tribal officer IK Muivah being appointed only as a member of the said committee while a junior IPS officer is being made the chairman.

It cautioned, the committee must tread carefully to ensure that no part of the land (village/town/ area) belonging to the hill districts, and the Kuki-Zo areas in particular, should fall in the jurisdiction of the valley districts, whether Revenue or Police.
