Khuplal Khongsai sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment

The convict was arrested in possession of 3.048 kg of heroin (brown sugar) and a chargesheet was submitted against the accused under section 21 (C), 25 and 60(3) NDPS Act.

The judge of the Special Court (ND&PS), Manipur, Mona Lisa Maibam on Monday sentenced Khuplal Khongsai under section 21 (c) ND&PS Act for possession of 3.048 kg heroin (brown sugar) to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment.

The convict, Khuplal Khongsai, 65 years, son of (L) Jilijang Khongsai of Molnom village, Ukhrul district was arrested on September 10, 2022 by ASI Tayenjam Romesh, NAB-PS while conducting frisking and checking at Kanglatombi Bazar along National Highway 102 (Imphal-Dimapur road), Imphal West district.

He was arrested in possession of 3.048 kg of heroin (brown sugar) and a chargesheet was submitted against the accused under section 21 (C), 25 and 60(3) NDPS Act.

The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh, within six months.However, since the convict has been in custody since September 21, 2022 till date, i.e., 591, during investigation, inquiry and trial and before the day of conviction, so the period of detention should be set off against the term of imprisonment, the judge said.
