Khomdram Samarjit has been appointed as the third Assistant Solicitor General of India (ASGI) for the High Court of Manipur after the terms of Salam Rupachandra Singh and Sarangthem Suresh Singh expired in March, 2021.

An order issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, department of Legal Affairs (judicial section), government of India on November 8, accepted the resignation of Assistant Solicitor General of India for the High Court of Rajasthan, Jaipur Bench Vineet Dhanda and engaged Khomdram Samarjit as ASGI for the High Court of Manipur.

Advocate Khomdram Samarjit Singh was born to former principal, DM College of Arts, Imphal Khomdram Ibocha and (L) Hijam Mema Devi at Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, Imphal West. He is the second child of six siblings.

He started practicing as an advocate in the initial years (1999-2002) with senior advocate and former advocate general of Manipur H NK Singh who happens to be his uncle. He has put in a total period of 22 years in legal practice (including a brief period of two-and-half years as legal assistant in the Finance department, government of Manipur).

While in active practice, he has been associated with the organisations in the state of Manipur in various capacities. Some of them are, at Election Commission of India from 2019 to 2021 as its standing counsel in the High Court of Manipur; National Investigation Agency for eight years (October 2013 to November 2021) as its Special Public Prosecutor in the Special Court, NIA and High Court of Manipur; Manipur Nursing Council from 2018 to 2021 as its legal advisor-cum-standing counsel; Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch from 2019 as its honorary legal advisor; recently empanelled as one of the panel counsel for the State Bank of India in 2021.
