The Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) on Friday extended greetings on the arrival of the 18th foundation day of KCP’s military wing, Meeyamgi Fingang Lanmi (MFL), which falls on Saturday.
On arrival of the 18th foundation day of MFL, MAC extends greetings to all communities, revolutionary groups, CSOs, intellectuals, media fraternity, health workers, sports players and students etc., stated a release issued by member in-charge, secretary information and publicity S Mangal.
Since the MFL was founded on August 13, which is celebrated Patriots’ Day in commemoration of the leaders who laid down their lives during the Anglo- Manipur war, 1891, its foundation day is annually observed alongside Patriots’ Day, it stated.
August 13 is the day when freedom fighters Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged in 1891. Among Manipuris, it is a day of great sadness and the people commemorate the leaders by offering floral tributes, it mentioned.
These historical events ought to be remembered and their significance interpreted in the right way, it stated. If the people ignore their history, then they will lose their paths; without a history, there will be no future, it mentioned.
At different phases of history, Manipuri society had gone through certain cataclysmic events which threatened its very existence such as the Seven Years Devastation (1819-1826) and the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, it stated. There are many things to learn from these events, it added.
By organising the ‘Har Ghar Triranga’ under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostsav’ of PM Modi, a ‘Pan India’ agenda is being pushed to the public, it stated. This is in fact, a very old movement which follows the philosophy of Vinayak Damodar Sarvarkar who was arrested for his involvement in the killing of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Vinayak Godse, it continued. The Manipur state government should not misinterpret the August 13 observation with these campaigns and desecrate the graves of the freedom fighters of Manipur, it further stated.
It alleged that the ‘Har Ghar Triranga’ campaign seeks to completely erase the memory of Manipur’s rich history from the minds of the common people.
