A team of Thoubal district Police commando arrested two active cadres of the outlawed KCP Apunba (City Meitei) along with arms and ammunition on Wednesday.
As per police sources, Thoubal district Police received a tip off around 1 pm that some active cadres of the said organisation were going to carry out extortion in the general area of Yaripok in Thoubal district.
A team of Commando Unit Thoubal led by Thoubal district commando OC under the supervision of additional SP(Ops),Thoubal immediately rushed and started random frisking and checking of suspected persons.
On seeing the police team, one Scorpio white in colour, bearing registration No. MN01AG 4,673 cars started fleeing towards Thoubal Wangkhem Mamang Leikai near Litanthong. Due to their suspicious nature, they were chased and detained for verification.
On preliminary verification, they identified themselves as Singam Kabikanta alias Thoiba Meitei, 32, son of S Biren Meitei of Thoubal Wangkhem Mamang Leikai and Lairenlakpam Thoiba alias Sanajaoba Meitei, 26, son of L Ibotombi Meitei of Phaknung Awang Leikai, Imphal East.
As per sources, both were active cadres of proscribed outfit KCP Apunba (City Meitei) group organisation. The commando team seized one Scorpio white in colour bearing regd. no. MN01AG 4673, two mobile handsets, two 9mm Pistol with 2 magazines and fifteen 9mm live rounds. A case has been registered at Yairipok Police Station under relevant sections, the source added.
It may be recalled that the self-styled ‘chief of commander’ of the organisation, City Meitei had recently announced that his post will be handed over to one Paikhomba alias Father and he will be the deputy commander.
City Meitei made the announcement during a press briefing held somewhere in Tengnoupal district on Sunday. He stated that the advisory committees of the organisation held discussions on the matter thrice from May 23 to May 25 and unanimously agreed to appoint Paikhomba alias Father as new ‘chief of commander’ while he himself as deputy commander.
Moreover, he continued that the meeting of the KCP Apunba advisory committees also discussed the ongoing conflict. The meeting also scrutinised how to keep the armed cadres of KCP Apunba in touch with the local public, he added.
Stating that the meet resolved some key resolutions, City Meitei conveyed the agreement that the outfit will focus more on the present conflict seriously. It was also agreed that their cadres will change every attitude towards the public to bring more closeness, he said. Paikhomba alias Father and cadres also took part at the press briefing.
