Traders at Khwairamband market on Saturday appealed to the people of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts not to block the goods trucks carrying essential commodities, including medicines, and let the trucks stranded along the national highway reach their destination.
Economic and Resource Development Organisation (ERDO), secretary general, Shanta Nahakpam told the media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal, on Saturday that over 200 goods trucks carrying essential commodities, including medicines, have been stranded along the national highway due to the road block enforced in Kangpokpi by civil bodies of the district.
He said the essential commodities in those stranded trucks are to be distributed in various parts of the state, including the Imphal area, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Moreh, and other parts of the state.
The present government has also been taking various initiatives to provide safe passage to the Imphal bound vehicles, he said. The traders of Khwairamband also appeal to the people of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts to give free passage for the stranded vehicles, he added.
He further said the traders had a meeting with Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Bobby Waikhom. During the meeting, the commissioner also assured that the government will take necessary steps for the safe passage of the stranded vehicles.
