Manipur child rights activist Keisam Pradipkumar has been appointed as the new chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) for the term 2023-2026 with immediate effect.
The notice informing the same was issued on Friday by commissioner cum secretary (Social Welfare), Government of Manipur, Ningthoujam Geoffrey in the name of the Governor.
It stated that Pradipkumar will hold the office for a term of three years from the date on which he assumes the said office or till he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier until further order. The MCPCR chairperson will draw remuneration at Rs 50,000 per month as per Government order dated November 19, 2018, it added.
It may be mentioned that K Pradipkumar, hailing from Wangkhei Ayangpalli road, Imphal East, is a law graduate and has held other child rights-related posts such as chairperson CWC, convenor MACR earlier. He was also a recipient of the Fellowship of Child Rights and You (CRY) in the field of protection of child rights.
Meanwhile, another 6 individuals comprising three males and females each have been appointed as members of the Commission. They are M Phungching Shaiza from Chadong Village, Kamjong District; Lourembam Layanbi Chanu from Singjamei Chingamakha Yanglem Leikai, Imphal West; Singakhongam Al Kausar Banu from Keikhu Maning Leikai 4-Kshetrigao A/C, Imphal East; Heisnam Dorendra Singh from Lairenjam Makha Leikai, Imphal West; Mohammad Habibur Rahman from Irong Chesaba Mayai Leikai, Kakching District and Ch Anita from Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak, Imphal West.
The statement further said that every member will hold office for a term of three years from the date on which he/she assumes the said office as laid down under section 19 (1) of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005.
It mentioned that members of MCPCR will draw remuneration at Rs 20,000 per month as per the Government order dated March 4, 2015. The appointments were made in exercise of powers conferred by Section 18 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, it stated.
