MLA Kh Joykisan on Wednesday said that he will bring up the issue on the floor of the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly session for formation of law against illegal parking in public places.
Addressing the media at his residence located at Khoyathong in Imphal West, Joykisan said people have been reacting to a wrong information that volunteers of a relief camp threatened the public by puncturing tyres parked near a relief camp last Wednesday.
Highlighting the incident, Joykisan said last Wednesday three vehicles (four wheeler) bearing registration number MN01S-8569; MN01AG-1948 and MN01S-3272 were found at the entrance of a relief camp opened at Khoyathong behind Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba, Imphal West.
To provide drinking water, a water tanker came around 2 pm to the relief camp however, due to the blockage of the entrance the tanker was not able to unload the water at the relief camp. When the local club members and volunteers tried to find the owner of the said three vehicles they were not able to find out, the MLA narrated, adding the water tanker left as it had to provide water to other relief camps.
When the water truck came again late in the evening, the three vehicles were still there and to alert the owner of the vehicles, the volunteers of the said relief camp punctured the three vehicles, the MLA said.
He said the three vehicles were forcibly removed with the help of SP, Imphal West the next day.
However, some people of the same locality came out and created a scene of the incident, the MLA said, adding that he along with local club members negotiated the issue.
He continued that those people who created a scene earlier came inside the relief camp later and started vandalising a car parked inside the campus. The car bearing registration number MN01AK 4051 belonged to one of the displaced persons staying at the said relief camp, said Joykisan.
On seeing the situation, around 14 children fainted and they were rushed to RIMS for treatment.
Joykisan said when the SP was asked to seize the three vehicles for illegal parking in public places, he was told that there is no law to seize a vehicle found parking in a public area.
It is not the fault of law keepers but the fault of law makers, he said, adding that in the coming Manipur Legislative Assembly session, he will call for a law to take legal action against illegal parking in public areas.
The MLA said the issue will be taken into consideration by CM Biren against those who are creating unwanted issues against the displaced persons staying at relief camps.
Meanwhile, reports were found that some miscreants are threatening residents of Thangal Bazar during the night time. He warned those miscreants not to repeat similar incidents and said the residents of Thangal Bazar remain calm as adequate security will be provided.
