JNIMS Students Association condemns assault of Dr Larung Mejonah

Dr Larung Mejonah, belonging to the Maring tribe, was allegedly harassed by police personnel at Konung Mamang in Imphal on Friday night around 9 pm.

JNIMS Students Association (JSA) on Sunday condemned the misconduct allegedly displayed by Manipur Police personnel against Dr Larung Mejonah at Palace Compound around 9 pm on Friday.

JSA, in a release, urged the authorities concerned to carry out immediate and thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

It mentioned that the incident occurred even after Larung Mejonah produced the documents requested and disclosed that he was a doctor currently working as a Medical Officer in Moreh, Manipur Health Services.

It stressed the need for ensuring transparency and accountability in restoring public confidence in the law enforcement agencies. It further urged implementation of robust training programs focused on de-escalation techniques, implicit bias and community engagement to prevent such incidents in future.
