JNIMS director professor Deben Singh Laishram on Thursday announced that stringent legal action will be taken up if anyone is found acting as a medical staff of the hospital and found attending patients without the consent of JNIMS authority.
Deben told the media at his office chamber on Thursday that on Monday, one Nahakpam Memchoubi, 70, from Langthabal Mantrikhong, Imphal West was admitted to JNIMS emergency ward.
While the hospital staff was attending the patient, a woman made a request to the doctors that the patient might need oxygen. When the doctors checked the oxygen level with the help of an oximeter, her oxygen level was found to be 95/96 which is normal, he added.
The family of the patient lodged a complaint to JNIMS authority, stating that after the doctor checked the oxygen level of the patient, one person came and started using abusive words to the patient, after which the patient died due to heart failure, said Deben.
Regarding the incident, JNIMS director said that the officials of the hospital held a meeting on Thursday and decided to issue a circular that no outsiders including doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacy runners will be allowed to enter the hospital without the consent of the JNIMS authority. He further said stringent legal action will be taken up against defaulters including the doctor who is attending the patient.
He said the JNIMS authority has made a complaint to the police station concerned to book the culprit who is involved in the September 11 incident.
Deben further said that the hospital has been serving the patient under the slogan, ‘patient safety, elevate the voice of patients, patient priority (patient’s choice)’. He said the hospital has been serving the people by providing free services at maximum.
