JD(U) delegation call on Manipur governor

The Janata Dal (United), Manipur delegation requested Governor Anusuiya Uikey to extend assistance to artists, actors, technicians in Manipur.

A delegation of Janata Dal (United), Manipur led by its president Ksh Biren Singh along with five others called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday and requested to extend assistance to artists, actors, technicians in Manipur.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor and said, the artist community has been badly affected due to the crisis in the state and therefore the government should support them, the Raj Bhavan said in a press release.

The team said, as the people of the valley especially the Meetei/Meitei cannot travel through the highways, air travel is the only means to travel outside the state. Relief by way of financial assistance (subsidized air fare) should be given to passengers of Manipur, the team said and also raised the issue of unavailability of employment opportunities and hardships faced by the working class and urged the Governor to extend financial assistance to the families of skilled and unskilled workers in the state.

The Governor, while expressing her unhappiness over the hardships faced by the artist community, said, all sections of society have been affected due to the violence in the State.
She assured the delegation that she will ask the government to work out plans so as to extend support to the artist community and to the working class so that they can at least support their families, the Raj Bhavan said.

Brig (Retd) L Ibotombi Singh also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Thursday evening and shared proposals for resolving the present impasse in the State. He suggested that disarmament is the prerequisite factor to bring the situation back to the atmosphere where peace talks can be initiated.

Deployment of security forces based on threats and flash points of violence, to encourage surrender of arms, to seal Indo-Myanmar border etc. are some of the points that he suggested to the Governor, the Raj Bhavan said.

He urged the Governor to fill up the post of secretary, Rajya Sainik Board and to appoint a Director of the Board in the interest of the ex-servicemen in the state.

The Governor welcomed his suggestions put forward for restoration of peace and normalcy in the State and assured to take up steps for the welfare of ex-servicemen in the state.

Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh along with Shachi Gurumayum, Founder Trustee, MaolKeki Foundation also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan.

Shachi highlighted the various initiatives taken up by the foundation to bring about a change in the rural economy by encouraging agriculture and horticulture in the state. He said training programmes for agro-entrepreneurs have also been conducted and youths from 14 districts, except from Jiribam and Pherzawl, participated.

The Governor appreciated the efforts made by the Foundation and asked to continue the pace to make Manipur, a developed and prosperous state, the Raj Bhavan said.
