Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that the state government is working on developing memorial parks named after freedom fighters of the state, and called upon all to pay respect to great forefathers who had sacrificed their lives for the country.
"The state government is making efforts towards developing memorial parks in the name of our freedom fighters... We must pay our respect to our great forefathers who had sacrificed their lives for the country and should not forget their selfless sacrifices," Biren said while adressing the closing ceremony of the 13th Jadonang Memorial Football Tournament held at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak Imphal Saturday.
Recognizing the valour of Rani Gaidinliu, the Centre, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has commissioned a ship named “Rani Gaidinliu”, he said.
Stressing the present government's "commitment" to bring inclusive development in the state, he said many development works have been undertaken across the state.
Mentioning that there is a strong sports movement in the state, Biren said the government is developing Astroturf football grounds in Tamenglong, 21 playgrounds in Tamei area and three grounds in Oklong, Senapati among others.
Encouraging sportspersons of the state, the chief minister also said that sports can unite people and communities as it has no religion, caste and creed.
Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip, Minister for Water Resources Awangbow Newmai, Minister for Social Welfare Heikham Dingo, Chairman Hill Areas Committee Dinganglung Gangmei, MLAs Khumukcham Joykishan, Janghemlung Panmei and others were present at the function.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister also inspected the construction work of Amusement Work at Thenggu Chingjin.
