‘Ishanou’ honoured with red-carpet roll out

1st Anniversary celebration of Aribam Syam Sharma’s ‘Ishanou’ being selected for Cannes Classics, 2023 held.

Doyen of Manipuri cinema Aribam Syam Sharma on Saturday stressed the importance of filmmakers to authentically portray the intrinsic cultural values of Manipur in films and to assert it’s uniqueness on the global platform.

He was speaking at the 1st Anniversary celebration of Aribam Syam Sharma’s ‘Ishanou’ being selected for Cannes Classics, 2023. The red carpet event was held at auditorium hall of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal.

He emphasised the importance for filmmakers and enthusiasts alike to discourse on why Manipuri films were less recognised as compared to other cultural facets of the state.

“If a Manipuri film gains international stage, it means the audience respects the unique cultural heritage of the state and as such, we need to be conscious of our roots and tell stories which reflects them,” he said.

He stated that retracing the film history of Manipur was not an easy feat and therefore, he expressed his gratitude to MSFDS for organising such a grand event and celebrating old Manipuri films.

He further highlighted the difficulties he faced while filming ‘Ishanou’ and the efforts of creative minds which made the film possible.

The cast and crew members of ‘Ishanou’ along with the restoration team of the film were also felicitated during the event.

Additional Chief secretary MH Khan and Art & Culture commissioner Mongjam Joy along with eminent film personalities of the state were present at the event.
