Amid recent adjustments in plans, the fresh recruit of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) on Monday left Imphal for Assam by Indian Air Force aircraft.
Initially the new recruits of the 10th and 12th IRB numbering about 1,724 were slated for a road trip to Lachit Borphukan police academy, Dergaon in Assam from Manipur Police Training Academy, Pangei for their basic training on Saturday.
However, the plan was cancelled in response to protest from civil bodies and family members of the recruits.
The protestors raised concerns about the safety and the security of the new recruits as the by-road route passed through Kuki-inhabitants areas, amid the ongoing communal unrest in Manipur.
Responding to the mounting protests, CM N Biren has dropped the road travel plan, announcing it in his facebook post the same day, with a commitment to arrange an alternative route.
Accompanied by 26 training ustads, including two CO level officers, the newly recruited team embarked on their journey by flight from Imphal to Assam on Monday.
Announcing the news to the public in his facebook page, CM Biren conveyed, “My best wishes to all of them as they move ahead to serve the nation.”
