Irate mob burns seven abandoned houses in Imphal

Two abandoned houses at New Checkon and five abandoned houses at Phaibijaang and Hebron Veng, Langol were burned by irate mob on Saturday.

In the aftermath of brutal killing of three people by Kuki militants in the early morning of Saturday at Kwakta Lamkhai ward number 3, an irate mob burned at least seven houses at Imphal East and West districts on Saturday evening.

In Imphal East district, an irate mob vandalised two abandoned houses at New Checkon and when they started to torch the house, state police including central forces rushed to the spot. To control the mob, the state police fired blank live rounds followed by tear gas and mock bombs to disperse the mob.

The mob also retaliated with slingshots towards the combined force.

Later, a Manipur Fire Service team rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. During the incident, one kutcha house was totally damaged while a pucca house was partially damaged.

Meanwhile, an irate mob arson at least five abandoned houses at Phaibijaang and Hebron Veng, Langol at around 5.30 pm.

A combined team of state and central forces including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) rushed to the spot to control the mob. Several rounds of live bullets, tear gas shells and mock bombs were fired to disperse the irate mob.

During the incident one Takhellambam Thoi, 45, son of T Ingotomba of Lamphel Yaipha Leikai received bullet injury on his left thigh. He was reportedly injured from bullets shot by Kuki militants who were hiding in the houses.

The injured was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment.

Later, a team of Manipur Fire Service along with SP, Imphal West rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. However, most of the houses were already damaged by then.
