In an effort to preserve and protect the sanctity and sacred Ipum Pat (Ipum Lake), the Ipum Pat Day, 2023, was celebrated on Sunday at Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East under the aegis of Ipum Pat Laiphamlen Kanba Lup (IPLKL).
The celebration commenced with the playing of Pena Seitharol of Ipum Pat and other traditional rituals.
Speaking on the occasion, president of IPLKL, Hijam Raikumar, is one of the sacred historical lakes of Manipur and has been providing a lot of significance to the people residing around the lake.
Pointing out that there is a fear of losing the sacred lake due to the growing industrialisation, he sought the help of the people of the state in protecting and preserving the lake.
The programme was also attended retired principal of Pettigrew College, Khumukcham Ibohanbi; father of L Susindro (CAF and PD minister) Leisangthem Itocha; president of Leihoumee Salai Ahongpung Thougal Lup Ch Nandalala; president of MM Heingang Mandal W Bormani as presidium members.
