Manipur Chief Minister N Biren informed the House of the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly session on Monday that investigation into the recent attack on official Sheikh Abdul Hakim has started and the culprits will be booked immediately.
Biren was responding to the question raised by opposition MLA K Govindas during the zero hour in the floor of the house.
Seeking response from the government, Govindas said that for the last few years, attacks on government officials had stopped. But recently on February 2, Sheikh Abdul Hakim who is the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Noney district was attacked by some miscreants on his way from Noney towards Imphal. During the attack, three bullets hit his vehicle but no one was injured, he added.
Despite the attack, the state government has not made a single statement in connection with the investigation, he said. If similar attacks happen again in the future, the government officials may feel hesitant to discharge their duties out of fear, Govindas said.
Responding to the query, Biren said investigations have started in connection with the incident which occurred in between Charoi Pangongba and CRPF camp along national highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam). A suo-moto case has been registered at the police station concerned, he mentioned. However, the culprits behind the incident are yet to be ascertained and they will be booked shortly, Biren added.
