International Women’s Day celebrated across Manipur

Social Welfare Minister H Dingo stressed on the strength of Manipur women which plays a big role in the present crisis of the state.

Manipur joined the world in observation of International Women’s Day which is being celebrated under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”.

The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur celebrated the day at DIPR auditorium.

During the celebration, Social Welfare Minister H Dingo emphasised on the role of women while bringing development in the state. He also stressed on the strength of Manipur women which plays a big role in the present crisis of the state.

He stated that the power of Manipur women is so strong that the shoot at sight order of the state government had turned to search at sight, as women check Central forces vehicles.
Acknowledging the role of women the Indian government has implemented various schemes for empowerment of women, he added.

The All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) also celebrated the International Women day at Manipur Press Club.

During the celebration, MLA Kebi called for equality within the family, to change oneself and said that it is women who discriminate against women most of the time and that such things should stop.

With the changing of the environment, men have now come forward supporting and encouraging women, she said.

Chandel

In Chandel district, the International Women’s Day was celebrated at the Conference Hall, Office of the Deputy Commissioner while in Senapati district, the District Administration in collaboration with Integrated Child Development Services, Nehru Yuva Kendra Senapati, One Stop Centre, Senapati District Women Association celebrated the International Women’s Day at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati.

Churachandpur:

Village Level Federations, Lamka TD Block and  District Administration Churachandpur collaborated on Friday to observe the International Women’s Day 2024 at Synod Hall, IB Road, which was attended by Block Mission Management Unit, under the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) like Community Facilitator, Village Level Federations (VLF) and different Self Help Group (SHG).

The occasion was held with the theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’ and was graced by Mannuanching as chief guest.

The programme was led by Laltuokzuol, Rengkai VLF and Sonkim Luangkhawm VLF while Irene from Elite VLF delivered the welcome address.

The chief guest said that looking back 40 years, the role and privilege enjoyed by women have improved immensely, adding that the role of women is deemed to be equal with their male counterparts leading to equal opportunities where they get equal job and salary.

She said that in regards to discrimination for women, the women themself have a role to play and do away with their traditional custom of wife being  inferior or subjected to their husbands.  

The chief guest also warned about the negative use of women’s rights.

Tamenglong:

The day was widely celebrated at different locations by different organisations under the theme ‘Invest in women, Accelerate progress’.
At Mini Stadium Tamenglong, a seminar on International Women’s Day was organised by 6 Assam Rifles Tamenglong battalion under the theme ‘Inspired inclusion’

Local MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Tamenglong superintendent of police Lanmiyo Luikham, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur president KC Savio, Zeme Naga Council Manipur president NG Aku, 6 Assam Rifles commandant Colonel Aman Ahluwalia SM, Ajikmai Pamei, Chairperson of Rani Gaidinliu Foundation Trust, schools principals, etc attended the seminar.

Thoubal:

Scheme Workers Union (SWU) Heirok also joined in observing International Women’s day under All India Trade union Congress (AITUC) on the theme “Inspire Inclusion” at the residence of RK Sunanda in Heirok part (ii) Devi Mandop Leikai on Friday.

AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotin Kumar and Scheme Workers Union Heirok president N Shantibala Devi attended the event as chief guest and president respectively.

AITUC secretary  Kh Samungou, All Manipur ASHA workers union president Th Purnimashi Devi, Scheme Workers Union Manipur coordinator K Sanahanbi Devi, All Manipur ASHA workers union publicity secretary W Champratombi Devi and AITUC Manipur executive member I. Tomba also attended the event as guest of honours.

Anganwadi workers of scheme workers union Heirok attended the event.

District Legal Services Authority Thoubal and Rural Voluntary Services(RVS) Wangbal also jointly observed the day under Manipur State Legal Services Authority at Iramdam Ningol Sanglen campus in Wangbal.

District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal secretary in charge Masana E Panmei spoke during the event. Samom Ibjen, chairman DLSA Thoubal also appreciated the active roles taken by the women of the state. Advocate Khoisnam Lembisana Meidingu also spoke on “women related laws and free legal aid” during the event.

Samom Ibjen Singh, Chairman DLSA, Thoubal; Masana R Panmei, Secretary in charge DLSA, Thoubal and Sapam Babita, Secretary Rural Voluntary Service, Wangbal attended the event as presidium members. Shakti Sadan Home District Legal Services Authority,Thoubal also presented gifts to the inmates of Shakti Sadan Home.

United Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. Heinoukhong, Machi Block, Tengnoupal District and District Legal Service Authority, Chandel also observed the day at Khulsaibung Community hall, Tengnoupal district.

Ld Jacky Lucy, Retainer Lawyer, District Legal Service Authority, Chandel,  Shangnaidar Tontang, Secretary, Weaker Section Development Council (WSDC) and Fakrul Islam Choudhary, judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Moreh attended the event as presidium members which was held on the theme ‘’Count Her In Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment”.
