The International Manipuri Short Story Festival 2022 opened at the Court Point in Sylhet, Bangladesh on Monday.
The IMSSF 2022 is organised by Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad, Sylhet and Manipuri Short Story Society, India.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Sylhet DC Muhammad Mosharrof Hossain as the chief guest, the Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad, Sylhet and the Manipuri Short Story Society, India.
The ‘Sinam Tanubabu Memorial International Award 2022’ was conferred to Mutum Ramani Devi from Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai for her work entitled ‘Fongngamdraba Cheinakhol’.
The ‘Rajkumar Sitaljit memorial award 2022’, which is the lifetime achievement award presented by Manipuri Short Story Society, India, was conferred to Ak Seram from Sylhet, Bangladesh.
The Manipuri Short Story Society, India also released its compilation book entitled ‘Panthung Tamna’ by the chief guest, followed by the release of Usharani and Lairenlakpam Ngouba’s books.
Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad, Sylhet president Ak Seram said that the main objective of the event is to showcase the development of the literature of the Manipuri short stories. He also highlighted the importance of the event in strengthening the relationship between the Manipuri literature enthusiasts in India and Bangladesh.
Manipuri Short Story Society, India secretary Sarat Kumar Thokchom also mentioned the importance of organising such an event to strengthen the bonds of the Manipuris in India and Bangladesh and for the development of Manipur literature as well.
Later in the evening, two sessions of a short story narration programme were also organised which was participated by 26 story writers from Manipur, Assam and Bangladesh.
