Interaction programme with weavers organised by District Handlooms and Textiles, Tamenglong, Government of Manipur was held at Zeliangrong Union Assembly Hall near Polo ground, Tamenglong on Thursday.
Tamenglong project manager KS John in his keynote address told the weavers that Handlooms Weaver card holders can avail loans from the bank. If the re-payment is satisfied, then the weavers can get loans with subsidy. He also said that if the weaving machine needs repairing, the government will repair it for free, and weavers need to report to the office staff.
He also informed that the district Handlooms and Textiles Tamenglong is planning to conduct training for interested weavers probably in the next coming month.
Chairman, Handloom Industry MK Akham also attended the Interaction program with the weavers. He shared his success story and encouraged the weavers to be patient, work harder to support their families.
“Weaving is not just about earning money. We are also promoting our traditional shawls and clothes. If weavers are dedicated, they can support their family easily. Weavers of Tamenglong need to work together to get easy access with the officials of district Handlooms and Textiles,” he said.
At the interaction hours, many weavers shared their grievances and put up some demands from the state government. One of the demands is to set up a Sales Depot of Handlooms products so that the burden of going down to Imphal will be solved.
The interaction programme was attended by district Handlooms and Textiles officials and around 30 weavers of Tamenglong district.
