Imphal Free Press’s photojournalist, Stephen Yumkhaibam (Stephen Luwang), has secured the coveted CPB Photo Awards - Edition IV - 2023-24, organized by the Chennai Photo Biennale (CPB) Foundation.
The organizers of the award expressed their excitement, sharing the shortlist for CPB Photo Awards Edition IV from over 9,000 entries. They extended congratulations to all applicants and appreciated the efforts made from over 300 cities across India.
The award consists of cash Rs 50,000 and a certificate.
The award ceremony took place at The Leela Palace Chennai, India, where Stephen Luwang was honored as the winner in the News and Current Affairs - Photo Story category.
The CPB Foundation, established in 2018 to promote educational and collaborative opportunities in visual arts, aims to recognize and celebrate excellence in photography in India, especially highlighting under-recognized regional talent.
The jury panel, featuring renowned personalities such as Daniella Zalcman, Dinesh Keishnan, Gabrielle Fonseca Johnson, Kay-Chin TAY, and Senthil Kumaran, meticulously evaluated the submissions.
Stephen Luwang’s winning entry focused on portraying the profound moments of human suffering and resilience amidst the Manipur Violence, shedding light on untold stories and stark realities often overlooked.
Through his lens, Stephen captured the raw emotions and challenges faced by communities torn apart by conflict, emphasizing the resilience and strength exhibited by individuals amidst adversity.
Stephen’s achievement not only brings recognition to his remarkable talent but also amplifies the voices of those whose stories deserve attention. His work serves as a powerful testimony to the human spirit, raising awareness and fostering empathy towards pressing social issues.
