Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata on Sunday said the Manipur government should book the armed miscreants who fired gunshots at her residence on April 20 within 15 days, asserting that “those goons working for money will be rejected by society when the time comes.”

An FIR was lodged at Imphal Police Station in connection with the shooting incident but there are no positive developments, Sujata said during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.

She said that the armed goons were sent by the present government because her statement during the previous press conference was directed against the government and not to any organisation.

During the previous press conference in April, she served an ultimatum to the government to find out those unidentified individuals within three days, and the conference was also related to the various unwanted incidents which took place during the recent Lok Sabha inner elections, she said.

Afterwards, some armed miscreants attacked her residence by firing three rounds and similar incidents of threats have been frequently given to doctors, civilians and even journalists, she added.

The government should convince the public that there is a law of the land in Manipur by taking necessary steps against such threats, she said. There is a governor and the chief minister as a unified command and they should take necessary steps to keep the public safe, she added. The present government had been claiming that the present law and order of Manipur has been getting far better compared to the previous governments, she said.

“Even security advisor Kuldiep said earlier that he has been taking action in the present crisis as a neutral body. If he is taking action as a neutral body, then he should take fair and equitable action or punishment to both the communities which are wrong instead of remaining as a silent spectator,” said Sujata.

The people are afraid to get out of their residences in the present scenario, she added.

Sujata further appealed to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to listen again to the statements that he made during the initial period of the crisis and at present.

“The elected representatives should know that they were elected by the public not by the Central forces. As for the armed goons who are working under the influence of money without considering what is right or wrong, their time will come,” she said.

Sujata further urged all the sections of the society to help in finding out the culprits, appealing to the government to book those ‘sakhangdabas’ (unidentified persons) at the earliest.
