In a step to curb the influx of illegal immigrants, Kakching district magistrate on Friday announced that all house owners under Kakching district are required to get tenant verification from the concerned police station.
An order by Kakching district magistrate Somorjit Salam stated that all house owners and lessors under Kakching district are required to mandatorily get tenant verification done from the concerned police station.
The Kakching superintendent of police is required to ensure verification of all the houses, guest houses and hotels in the district and check the genuineness of the identity documents of the respective tenants and guests, it mentioned.
“In recent times there had been detection and violation of Manipur ILP guidelines and many arrested in different parts of the state during ILP verification drive. So the steps to identify illegal migrants and to check the use of wrongfully obtained documents including Aadhaar cards, voter cards, driving licences and ration cards are needed,” it stated.
In order to check the influx of illegal immigrants, the district magistrate had exercised the power conferred under Sub-section 2 of Section 114 of Cr.P.C. 1973 and implemented such preventive measures, it added.
