ICAR-KVK celebrates golden jubilee

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s (ICAR) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) on Tuesday celebrated its Golden Jubilee, commemorating 50 years of dedicated service in agricultural development.

Established in 1974, ICAR-KVK has been at the forefront of agricultural innovation, research, and extension services, catering to the diverse agricultural needs of farmers across the region, stated a release.

It mentioned that the celebratory event witnessed a symbolic torch handover from senior scientist and head of KVK Imphal West Laishram Kanta Singh, to senior scientist and head of KVK Ukhrul S Khogen Singh.

The ceremony, attended by esteemed dignitaries including SR Das, Ramgopal Laha, and IM Singh, highlighted the pivotal role of ICAR-KVK in enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices, it stated.

It mentioned that the director of ATARI, Zone VII AK Mohanty emphasised the significance of the torch handover during the Zonal Action Plan workshop held at Umiam, Meghalaya. The torch symbolises the transfer of knowledge, expertise, and commitment to agricultural development from one generation to the next, signifying continuity and resilience in the face of evolving challenges.

Das, representing the Quality Review Team, underscored the critical role of KVKs in driving agricultural transformation and urged collaborative efforts to address emerging challenges. He commended ICAR-KVK for its exemplary work in fostering inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth, urging KVK Imphal West to uphold the legacy of excellence and innovation, it stated.

The torch handover ceremony was attended by agricultural experts, students from COA, CAU, and stakeholders, reaffirming their commitment to the advancement of agriculture in the region, it further stated.

As ICAR-KVK embarks on the next phase of its journey, it remains steadfast in its mission to empower farmers, promote agricultural sustainability, and contribute to the nation’s food security goals, it added.
