Husband sent to 15-day judicial custody for attempt to murder wife

The wife stated in the complaint that there is always an apprehension that he might harm their children at any time in the future.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on Friday remanded a husband in 15-day judicial custody till May 20 in attempt to murder case.

Laishram Flint alias Dijendro, 50, son of L Udhop of Langol Lai Manai near Community Hall, Imphal West was arrested in connection with a complaint by his wife Laishram Thoibi who stated that on May 5 at around 7:00 AM, they had an argument in their kitchen while she was cooking food for her family. Suddenly, he took an aluminium cooking pot (uyan) from the kitchen rack and hit on her head intentionally, she stated, adding that she received a severe injury on upper left head following which she was taken to RIMS hospital for medical treatment.

Thoibi stated in the complaint that such an act of her husband had happened several times earlier, leaving her children restless. Moreover, there is always an apprehension that he might harm their children at any time in the future, as he has been attempting to do so, the complaint further stated.

During the investigation, the police found that there had been many incidents of harassment and violence to the wife. Due to the extreme harassment, the wife fled to her paternal home and stayed there for about one year and half. She came back recently but despite much persistence from family members and relatives, he is found to be in the habit of harassing his wife, including his son. And he even physically harassed his elder daughter, the police investigation found.

The court, after considering the facts and grievous nature of the offences, remanded him into judicial custody for smooth investigation.
