A self-styled commander of Hmar People's Convention Democratic (HPCD), non SoO group, and other cadres were arrested by Churachandpur police on Wednesday.
According to Churachandpur police, they received information on Wednesday that one self-styled commander Alan Hmar of the said group along with his cadres are loitering with arms in two vehicles around Saikot and Moulvaiphei area.
It stated that on Tuesday, at about 9.30 pm Alan Hmar reportedly shot many rounds from his unauthorised arm and caused panic in the area. Therefore, a strong team under the supervision of Churachandpur police SP Shivanand Surve, additional SP (OPS) Th Deshorjit Singh; OC Churachandpur and a column of 36 AR rushed at Churachandpur Sugnu Road, it mentioned.
At about 5.25 pm, the vehicles were intercepted at Rengkai bridge. On checking the persons coming in both vehicles, one SIG SAUERP3 20SP 9mm Pistol ,made in USA, with two magazines cartridges having 12 live rounds and 7 live rounds each were detected from the possession of Alan Hmar, 29, son of Lalhmuok of Edentharveng, Rengkai, it further stated.
It stated that during interrogation, he revealed that he purchased the pistol from Moreh and he is secretary of External Affairs of HPCD (Non Soo).
His associates, namely Sanga Hmar alias Ramhlunsang, 40, son of Kaitinthang of Senvon, Pherzawl district at present Rengkai, Zote Veng, Churachandpur; Samuel Hmar ,21, son of Robin Hmar of Rengkai, Eden Thar Veng, Churachandpur; David Lalenglien ,32, son of Lalhlunsangof Muolvaiphei, Churachandpur; Lalramthar ,35, son Thanglun of Saikot, Churachandpur; Nehemiah Lalringum, 33, son of (L) Lalawithang of Muolvaiphei, Churachandpur have also been arrested, it stated.
A regular case under FIR NO b0(04) 2022 Churachandpur Police Station under section 400/506/34 IPC and 25(1-C) Arms act has been registered in connection with the case, it added.
