A housemaid, who was hired by a couple in Imphal to babysit their child, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing cash, gold ornaments and a mobile phone, sources said.
According to the sources, the accused identified as one L Roma from Imphal West was arrested, following a complaint lodged by the husband on account of theft on several occasions since 2019.
As per the complaint, his wife came to know that the cash in their almirah and some gold items went missing. When they questioned the maid about the missing cash amount and missing gold items, she confessed that she had been stealing from the house since October 2019 till June 2023, as per the complaint.
According to the complainant, the sum total of the valuables and money amounting to Rs 5,81,800 had been missing so far. The arrested maid was produced before the court and the court has remanded her in police custody for two days for further investigation of the case, the sources said.
