A house owned by one Ln Medun, 30, at Liwa Maring village in Chandel district was completely gutted at around 11 am, destroying properties worth around Rs 10 lakh.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Ln Medun expressed that today being Sunday, he and his family member were at a fasting programme in a Church when a six-year-old child came and informed him that his house had caught fire.

The villagers rushed back to the village from the Church and attempted to extinguish the flames, he said. However, they could not salvage any of the properties from inside the burning house as it was made of wood and roofed by CGI teen sheets, he added.

Due to the concerted efforts from the villages, the fire was stopped from spreading further to neighbouring houses, he further said, adding, a team of Chandel Fire service arrived but could not reach the house as it was located on a steep hill.
