House condoles demise of five politicians on 1st day of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly session

Addressing the House during the obituary reference, leader of the House N Biren Singh extended condolences on the untimely death of five members of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

On the first day of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly session, speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly moved a resolution concerning the death of five members of Manipur Legislative Assembly during the obituary reference.

Addressing the House during the obituary reference, leader of the House N Biren Singh extended condolences on the untimely death of five members of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

They are former Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Thoubal assembly constituency Laitenthem Tomba Singh; former Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 45-Chingai (ST) assembly constituency A Aza; former Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and Rajya Sabha from 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency Wahengbam Angou Singh; former Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 36-Wabagai assembly constituency Mayengbam Manihar Singh; former Member of the Electoral College, 1952-57, the Manipur Territorial Council, 1957-62 and the 1st Manipur Territorial Assembly, 1962-67 from Aimol assembly constituency Athuibo Daimai.

Biren recalled that Laitenthem Tomba Singh was elected for the first time in 1984 from Manipur People’s Party (MPP) and further re-elected in 1995, 2000 and 2002 from different political parties. During his elected period, he was also appointed as cabinet minister. His untimely death will be a big loss of the state, he added.

He continued that A Aza was also a good politician who worked with sincerity and was elected as MLA in 2002 under Indian National Congress ticket. During his tenure, he served the state as sports minister. Biren said he is a person who does not have any enmity with any individual and who prioritises in maintaining a good relationship among the people of hills and valley.

With his liberal mindset, he had contributed for the welfare of the state in various sectors, he said. His demise is not only a big loss for the Tangkhul community but also for the entire state, he added.

Wahengbam Angou was also one of the politicians who always tried to bring welfare for Manipur, Biren said. During his tenure as MP Rajya Sabha, he pressed the Central leaders through Parliament in order to bring welfare and development for Manipur, said the leader of the House.

Mayengbam Manihar was one of the good leaders of Manipur and his untimely demise and his absence cannot be filled up in the near future, he added.

Continuing his note, Biren said Athuibo Daimai was one of the state leaders who contributed in shaping Manipur after it got merged into India.

Senior leader of the opposition bench Okram Ibobi recalled that Laitenthem Tomba Singh was elected for four terms and he was a man of principle. During his tenure, he prioritised on bringing welfare and development in rural areas of Thoubal assembly constituency, he said. As a representative of the same assembly constituency, he extended his condolences on the untimely demise of the politician.

Ibobi also extended condolences on the untimely demise of A Aza; Wahengbam Angou; Mayengbam Manihar and Athuibo Daimai.

Further, MLA, Khasim Vashum; MLA, Usham Deben and Awangbou Newmai also took part in the obituary reference.

As a part of the motion, the House extended condolences by observing a two-minute silence.
